Salesforce: Be Unique

Customizing labels to meet your business needs

They say no snowflake is identical to another. That is true, but you can say the same for a company. Every company has a unique way of doing things. They even have their own water cooler language or jargon. So why not have your Salesforce system reflect the “talk-shop” lingo too? It only makes sense so everyone can be on the same page and it reinforces the company’s process.

In the Talent Stacker “The Giving Tree Foundation” project, we created a Donor Management system app. But instead of using the standard object names like Leads, Contacts and Opportunities, the client wanted to customized the labels on the app to fit their business process.

Leads = Potential Donors

Contacts = Donors

Opportunities = Donations

From the back facing page (click on Gear icon then Setup), type in “rename” into the Setup / Home search box and click on Rename Tabs and Labels from the menu.

Find the standard object name from the list that you want to change, click on the Edit button to the left of the name:

A new screen will appear, where you can enter in the new label names. It will ask you to enter a Singular and a Plural version of the name. Click Save

If the new label name starts with a vowel, be sure to check the “Starts with vowel sound” box — it’s a grammar thing.

That was super easy and your client will be so happy with their personalized org. Yippee!
