Just kick ‘n paddle…

I saw this online (don’t know who created it) and laughed because this is exactly how I felt about my very first project. I kept asking myself, “Am I ready? I don’t know about this! OMG, what did I get myself intoooo?” Splash!!!

No worries, everyone starts at the beginning and there’s no “perfect” time to start —so just jump in. The trick is to keep swimming. Little by little, with each stroke, you’ll get closer to your goal. Um, except when the current takes you backwards, that pain you’re feeling is called GROWTH.

So my first Salesforce project was working with Hawaii Literacy. I was paired with 2 other project mates and we were all babies! Freshly Admin Certified…

Hawaii Literacy wanted a Salesforce app to manage all of their volunteer functions. We got a list of fields they needed and a Google doc of their tutor application and from that, we created this…

The Hawaii Literacy Volunteers App!

The app is customized so all volunteer functions can be performed on this one page. Need to see the latest applications for Students and Tutors? Go to the Leads tab. Need the phone # to call a volunteer ? Go to the Contacts tab. Need to log attendance for a volunteer monthly meeting? Go to the Campaigns tab. Need to see which volunteers have submitted their monthly reports ? Go to the Reports tab. No more working off of spreadsheets or tabbing from one system to another. It’s all right here. And see the Hawaii Literacy logo at the top left? Yeah, we put that there too to remind them where they work. High 5!

In this project, we created custom objects & fields, created relationships between objects, mapped fields, built web to lead & case forms, created reports and set automation rules to do the tedious jobs that people like to complain about. Then, we were able to create a custom dashboard on the Home page to showcase their key metrics and recent activity.

You are HOME!

The Lightning App Builder lets you create custom pages to boost productivity by simply dragging ‘n dropping the component you want from the menu onto the canvas. It’s a super easy tool that makes the user experience mo’ betta’.

To get to the L App B, click on ‘Edit Page’ from the Gear Icon in the top right corner.

Yoo hoo! See these donut shaped charts of unmatched tutors and students? These charts come from a report we built and act as a visual ‘To-Do’ list - let’s get these people paired up, stat!

So as I said before, just kick ‘n paddle. You’ll be amazed at how nice the water is. Join me next week and I’ll show you more features on this project.
